As you may have noticed from our website, Bridges to Science is going to be hosting Houston’s very first science festival – Casa to College! Apply to join us at the West Houston Institute of Houston Community College on Saturday, September 9, 2023 during either our morning or afternoon session.

This festival is meant to be our way to celebrate the wonders of science and the contributions made by Hispanic Americans from the STEM field while also inviting our community to explore the sciences. Thanks to a private grant, we will be focusing this year on disadvantaged home educated learners from grade 5 all the way up to grade 12.

To avoid any confusion during the event, we are using this post to clarify any questions you may have. Of course, if you still need any more information, please contact us on our website. We will be happy to get in touch.

What is this festival for?

The Houston Science Festival is our way of connecting our vibrant Hispanic culture with interactive science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) activities for students in grades 5th-12th and their parents. The goal is to help families explore STEM activities and STEM pathways while providing the support they need to succeed.

What can I expect at the Houston Science Festival?

Be prepared to meet other individuals and communities with a similar interest in these topics as you. Along with a taste of Hispanic cuisine, we will also be providing family-friendly STEM activities such as live demonstrations, workshops, and multidisciplinary collaborations. Hispanic food will also be available for purchase from food trucks.

What is included in the giveaway?

On top of school supplies, our FREE technology kit will contain one of the following: a 7” tablet, a Chromebook, or a printer.

Who can participate in the festival?

Thanks to a private grant and in collaboration with Canary Academy Online this year, Bridges to Science is able to bring this science festival experience to home educated students in grades 5-12 from disadvantaged, historically underrepresented, or low-income background. These students, along with their parents, are free to participate in all the activities, including the giveaway.

How much does participation cost?

Admission, parking, and participation in the workshops and the giveaway are all free.
